When I rode Charr in 1957 we used to take some recon marines and sub reserves aboard. We'd go out to sea and dive the boat. We'd go down probably about 100'-150'. We had rigged a line from bulkhead to bulkhead in the crews mess and sat waiting for an unsuspecting soul. When one showed up we would look wild eyed at each other and try to look scared. When a boot would ask 'What's the matter we'd say "the skipper is an old WWII guy and sometimes gets kind of funny. See that line that is sagging? Well, we don't have any way to tell how deep we are so we use that to tell & we've never been that deep before. Scared most of them to death
