 The guaranteed reunion rate for the rooms ($99) is in effect until September 1, 2005.  After that date the rates may be different and there may be no rooms available.  Most of the information regarding the hotel was included in my e-mail and letters sent to members.  Reservations are to be made directly with the hotel.  The hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the airport.  Also, they provide free shuttle service to and from downtown Charleston.  For further information on the hotel, go to their Web site www.sheraton.com/northcharleston

Thursday, November 3, 2005 - register at the Hospitality Room.  Keg beer will be provided.  The cost of the beer will be $220.00/keg plus 8% sales tax.  So if you drink beer, please donate what you can to help defray the cost when you arrive.  No scheduled event for Thursday evening.  Feel free to explore the area or just hang around and get reacquainted with some old shipmates or meet some new ones from other eras.  There will be USS CHARR memorabilia for sale as well.  A copy of the Association By-Laws will be provided as well as a hand out for each member.

 

Friday, November 4, 2005 - we're having a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Carolina which will take about 3 hours on Friday evening.  The cost includes the cruise and the meal.  There will be a cash bar.  The cost per person will be $65.00/person which includes service fees and sales tax.  Please contact me via e-mail at ckleinsr@comcast.net or by phone at 410-747-7292 or contact Jim Freitas at lovettsinn@earthlink.net or by phone at 603-823-7761 to let us know if you plan on attending the cruise.  If you do plan on attending the cruise, please make your check out to the USS CHARR Alumni Association and mail to me at 1900 Rollingwood Rd., Baltimore, MD  21228.  A sample menu is as follows (it may change by the time of the reunion):

Traditional Charleston sautéed shrimp and Andouille sausage, served over creamy cheese grits with fresh seasonal vegetables.

Served with roasted shallot mashed potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables and Firestone Melot Bordelaise Sauce.

Saturday, November 5, 2005 - This is a free day to go on tours, just hang around and chat with fellow shipmates, go golfing, etc.  I have made arrangements to tour Patriots Point.  It includes a tour of the USS CLAMAGORE (SS343), the USS Yorktown and other ships.  You can view their site at http://www.patriotspoint.org/.  The cost of the tour is $12.00 per person.  If you plan on attending, please send your name and $12.00 made out to USS CHARR Alumni Assoc.   Also, we can arrange a tour of the Confederate Submarine H.L. Hunley.  If you are interested in that tour, please let me know and I will get back to you with the cost.

 

Saturday evening:  7:30 pm - we will gather at the designated area (to be announced) for a social gathering before having dinner at the hotel at 8:00 pm.  The cost of the dinner will be $35.00 per person which includes service.  Because it's a year away, the menu is not available.  It will be a buffet dinner with a lot of good things to eat.  I need to have your reservation 30 days prior to this date in order to make the contract for the dinner.

 

Sunday, November 6, 2005 - 9:00 am - general meeting of all crewmembers to vote for new officers of the Association and to finalize the site of the next reunion.  Also, bring your copy of the By-Laws.  We will vote on approving the writing of the By-Laws.

 

Monday, November 7, 2005 - 8:00 am - farewell breakfast gathering for all at the hotel.  The cost for Breakfast will be $15.00 per person which includes service charge and sales tax.  The Breakfast menu is:

Payment for either or both meals can be paid for either by check made out to the USS CHARR Alumni Association.  Reservations for meals and tours must be sent to me by October 1, 2005. 

 

We are requesting that if you plan on going to the dinner cruise, dinner at the hotel, and/or the breakfast, it would be appreciated if you could send you check indicating any or all of the events you're going to attend as soon as possible in order that we may have funds to support the start up of the Ship's Stores, i.e., hats, mugs, lighters, etc.
